Maynard leads Cardinals to win over Hawks

BELFRY — Quarterback Devan Maynard led Martin County to a win over Pike County Central in the Pike County Bowl at Belfry on Friday, Aug. 29.

The Cardinals defeated the Hawks 44-20.

With the win, Martin County evened its record to 1-1.

The Cardinals started strong and forced Pike County Central to play from behind in the bowl game.

Martin County amassed 401 yards of total offense.

Through the air, Maynard completed eight passes for 148 yards and two touchdowns.

Liam Fields and Jerrod Haney each hauled in one touchdown pass reception for the Cardinals.

On the ground, Maynard rushed nine times for 147 yards and three touchdowns.

As a team, Martin County rushed 22 times for 253 yards and four touchdowns.

Following Maynard in Martin County’s rushing attack, Dillon Daniel rushed six times for 68 yards and one touchdown.

Behind Daniel, Crayson Lafferty rushed six times for 38 yards for the Cardinals.

Defensively, several players contributed to Martin County’s first win in the 2025 high school football season.

Martin County is scheduled to visit Betsy Layne for its next game on Friday, Sept. 5.
