Maynard leads Cardinals to win over Floyd Central

EASTERN — Senior quarterback/defensive back Devan Maynard led Martin County over Floyd Central in a Class 2A, District 7 game on Friday, Oct. 17.

The Cardinals defeated the Jaguars 46-14.

Martin County improved to 7-1 overall and 3-0 in Class 2A, District 7 after registering the win.

Maynard excelled through the air, completing 13 passes for 252 yards and three touchdowns. On the ground, Maynard rushed seven times for 59 yards and two touchdowns.

Rex Ward led Martin County in receiving. Ward hauled in five receptions for 118 yards and one touchdown.

In addition to Ward, Jerrod Haney and Gavin Stepp each reeled in one touchdown pass reception for the Cardinals.  

As a team, Martin County rushed 27 times for 161 yards and three touchdowns. Jeremy Begley paced Martin County on the ground, rushing eight times for 60 yards and one touchdown.

Defensively for Martin County, Haney, Braxton Maynard and Brayden Fannin each tallied seven tackles. Providing a lift on the defensive side for the Cardinals, Maynard recorded one interception.

Martin County is scheduled to host Prestonsburg for its final Class 2A, District 7 game in the 2025 high school football season on Friday, Oct. 24. The winner of the Martin County-Prestonsburg matchup will secure the Class 2A, District 7 title.
