Maynard leads Cardinals past Hawks

BELFRY — Junior quarterback Devan Maynard led Martin County past Pike County Central 40-18 in the Pike County Bowl at Belfry High School on Friday, Aug. 30.

After registering the win, Martin County evened its record to 1-1.

Pike County Central dropped 1-1 following the loss.

Through the air, Maynard completed 10 passes for 259 yards and four touchdowns. On the ground, Maynard rushed 10 times for 68 yards and one touchdown.

Julian Stafford paced the Cardinals in receiving. Stafford hauled in four receptions for 194 yards and three touchdowns.

Aiding Martin County through the air, Jerrod Haney made two receptions for 26 yards and one touchdown.

The Cardinals entered the win column after falling to much-improved Hazard in a season opener on Friday, Aug. 23.

Martin County is scheduled to host Shelby Valley for its home opener at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 6.
