Martin County wins 15th Region All ‘A’ Classic Championship

PRESTONSBURG — Martin County edged tournament host Prestonsburg 1-0 to capture the 15th Region All “A” Classic Championship on Saturday, Sept. 9.

Lifting Martin County to the win, Faith Caldwell scored a goal off an assist from Hailey Damron.

Instrumental in Martin County’s win, goalkeeper Addison Duncan recorded a shutout. Duncan supplied five saves for Martin County in its shutout win.

Following the win, Martin County moved on to the All “A” Classic Girls’ Soccer State Tournament, which is scheduled to be held in Louisville Saturday, Sept. 23-Sunday, Sept. 24.

Martin County 11, Belfry 1: Martin County pulled away to beat Belfry 11-1 in the semifinals of the 15th Region All “A” Classic on Thursday, Sept. 7.

Laura Hale scored six goals to lead Martin County to the win.

Hailey Damron (two goals), Faith Caldwell (one goal, six assists), Sophia McCoy (one goal, five assists) and Lena Hale (one goal) followed Laura Hale in Martin County’s offensive attack.

Combining for 11 assists, Caldwell and McCoy were instrumental in Martin County’s win over Belfry.

Defensively, Martin County goalkeeper Addison Duncan limited Belfry to one goal while recording eight saves.

Martin County 16, Shelby Valley 0: Turning in a dominant performance, Martin County blanked Shelby Valley 16-0 during the opening round of the 15th Region All “A” Classic on Tuesday, Sept. 5.

Laura Hale (four goals, three assists), Sophia McCoy (three goals, three assists), Lena Hale (two goals, two assists), Ashdon Kerr (two goals, one assist), Aaliyah Cline (two goals), Faith Caldwell (one goal, five assists), Mia Preece (one goal, one assist), Tamara Workman (one goal) and Caitlyn Horn (one assist) were each productive offensively in Martin County’s shutout win.

Pacing Martin County defensively, goalkeeper Addison Duncan recorded a shutout with two assists.
