Cardinals rush past Tigers, 27-3

PAINTSVILLE — Martin County rushed past Paintsville 27-3 in a non-district game at Memorial Field on Friday, Sept. 8.

Following the win, Martin County evened its record. The Cardinals improved to 2-2.

Paintsville dropped to 1-3 after suffering the loss.

The Cardinals returned to the win column after suffering back-to-back losses.

Martin County rushed 54 times for 344 yards and four touchdowns.

Brock Messer led Martin County on the ground, rushing 22 times for 147 yards.

Aiden Horn ranked second in rushing for the Cardinals, taking 12 carries for 57 yards and three touchdowns.

Aiding Martin County’s offensive attack, Devan Maynard rushed two times for 50 yards and one touchdown.

In addition to the top three rushers. Madden Miller and Jackson Miller each rushed for positive yardage in Martin County’s convincing victory.

Martin County attempted only one pass in the matchup.

Defensively, Martin County limited Paintsville to a field goal. Madden Miller (11 tackles) and Julian Stafford (10 tackles, one interception) combined to lead Martin County’s defensive unit.

Delivering in the secondary for Martin County, Maynard and Stafford each recorded one interception.

Martin County is scheduled to visit Magoffin County on Friday, Sept. 15.

Paintsville has the week of Friday, Sept. 15 open.
