Martin County knocks off Tug Valley 59-53

WILLIAMSON, W.Va. — Martin County knocked off Tug Valley 59-53 in a girls’ high school basketball game on Thursday, Feb. 9.

Visiting Martin County shot 43.2 percent (19 of 44) from the field in the win over Tug Valley. Martin County, the frontrunner in the 57th District, shot 43.8 percent (seven of 16) from three-point range.

The Lady Cardinals shot 82.4 percent (14 of 17) from the free-throw line.

Katie Marcum scored 22 points to lead Martin County to the win.

In addition to Marcum reaching double figures for Martin County, Alyssa Allen scored 11 points and Laken Williams netted 10 points.

Martin County featured seven different scorers in its offensive attack. Brooklyn Marcum (seven points), Chloe May (three points), Kennadi Mollett (three points) and Sophie Harless (three points) provided Martin County’s other scoring.

Katie Marcum and Brooklyn Marcum each pulled down seven rebounds for Martin County in the matchup versus Tug Valley, a familiar opponent from nearby West Virginia.
