Lawrence County defeats Perry County Central 59-47

LOUISA — Lawrence County overcame a two-point halftime deficit to defeat perennial 14th Region title contender Perry County Central 59-47 in a girls’ high school basketball game on Saturday, Feb. 11.

Winning at home, Lawrence County outscored Perry County Central 33-19 in the second half.

Lawrence County, which led 20-7 at the end of the first quarter, shot 41.2 percent (21 of 51) from the field. The Lady Bulldogs made three of 14 three-point field-goal attempts.

Lawrence County shot 58.3 percent (14 of 24) from the free throw line.

The Lady Bulldogs out-rebounded Perry County Central 30-25.

Senior Kensley Feltner, a candidate for Kentucky Miss Basketball, led Lawrence County with a double-double. Feltner scored 25 points and pulled down 11 rebounds to lead the Lady Bulldogs. The Lawrence County senior led all players in scoring and rebounding.

Nearly recording a double-double for Lawrence County, Sophie Adkins netted 19 points and grabbed nine rebounds.

Following the top two scorers, Abby Nelson (eight points), Kaison Ward (three points), Leandra Curnutte (two points) and Jada Patton (two points) accounted for the rest of Lawrence County’s offensive production.

Perry County Central, which overcame a slow start to lead 28-26 at halftime, shot 38 percent (19 of50) from the field. The Lady Commodores made four of 19 three-point field-goal attempts.

Perry County Central shot 83.3 percent (five of six) from the free-throw line.

Shyanne Couch scored 12 points to lead the Lady Commodores. Couch connected on two of five three-point field goal attempts.

Narrowly missing double figures in scoring for Perry County Central, Emmalee Neace netted nine points.

The other scorers for Perry County Central were Taylor Couch (seven points), Kyra McAlarnis (seven points), Jacklynn Amis (six points), Kendra Lawson (four points) and Kara Minks (one point).
