PRESTONSBURG — Visiting Martin County held on to defeat Prestonsburg 27-20 in a Class 2A, District 8 game at Blackcat Stadium on Friday, Oct. 21.
The win allowed Martin County to improve to 6-3 overall and 4-1 in Class 2A, District 8.
Martin County never trailed in the Class 2A, District 8 game. The Cardinals led 20-6 at halftime.
Martin County rushed 37 times for 184 yards and three touchdowns in the district win.
Brock Messer led the Cardinals to the victory, rushing 15 times for 113 yards and one touchdown.
Following Messer in rushing for Martin County, Madden Miller rushed 11 times for 33 yards and two touchdowns.
Miller and Caleb Costa recorded 18 tackles apiece for the Cardinals.
Julian Stafford and Christopher Phillips each recorded one interception for Martin County. Delivering a score from the defensive side, Stafford returned his interception 79 yards for a touchdown.
Prestonsburg rushed 55 times for 296 yards and one touchdown. Ethan Jarvis led the Blackcats, rushing 32 times for 174 yards and one touchdown.
Jarvis and Reece Hamilton each completed one touchdown pass for the Blackcats.
Dalton Elliott paced Prestonsburg in receiving, recording four receptions for 34 yards and two touchdowns.
Bryce Patton registered 11 tackles to lead Prestonsburg’s defensive unit. Following Patton, Brant George posted 10 tackles for the Blackcats.
Martin County is scheduled to host Class 3A, District 7 member East Carter for its final game in the 2022 high school football season on Friday, Oct. 28.
