PAINTSVILLE — Johnson Central battled back from behind to edge visiting Letcher County Central 35-34 in a Class 4A, District 8 game at Coach Jim Matney Field on Friday, Oct. 28.
The win allowed Johnson Central to improve to 7-2 overall and 4-0 in Class 4A, District 8.
Letcher County Central dropped to 6-3 overall and 3-1 in Class 4A, District 8 as a result of the loss.
The Golden Eagles and Cougars swapped leads during the Class 4A, District 8 game.
Host Johnson Central scored late in the fourth quarter and held Letcher County Central out of the endzone on the final possession in the Class 4A, District 8 game to claim the victory.
Johnson Central rushed 48 times for 379 yards and five touchdowns in the win. Zack McCoart
Leading Johnson Central on the ground, rushing 18 times for 193 yards and two touchdowns.
Following McCoart in Johnson Central’s offensive attack, Mason Lawson rushed 16 times for 132 yards and three touchdowns.
Chipping in on the ground for Johnson Central, Chase Price rushed 11 times for 46 yards.
Sawyer Crum paced Johnson Central on special teams, connecting on five of five PAT attempts.
Jaxson Fannin and Seth Davis recorded 10 tackles apiece for Johnson Central in the district win.
Johnson Central is scheduled to host rival Belfry for its regular season finale on Friday, Oct. 28.
