Lawrence County Youth Football League B-Team captures the TURF BOWL championship
The LCYFL B-Team won the Turf Bowl championship Saturday, Nov. 9, 30-8 against the D.C. Express.
The B-Team gained revenge in a rematch of last year’s championship game. The game was played at Marshall University and streamed online on Facebook and YouTube via Video Productions.
The Bulldogs got off to a great start by controlling the ball the whole first quarter. In the second quarter, Brayson Raines caught a Tucker Muncy touchdown pass from 8 yards out and Raines added the 2-point conversion to make the score 8-0. D.C. answered with a score and 2- point conversion to tie the game 8-8. With 1 second to go before the half, Raines added another touchdown and the conversion failed to leave the score 14-8, at the half.
The third quarter was a lot of the Bulldogs controlling the ball and racking up yards. Raines raced in from 39 yards out for another touchdown, and he hit Muncy on a 2-point conversion pass to make the score 22-8 with 3:50 to go in the 3rd quarter. In the 4th, Muncy hit Lucas Block on a 38 yard catch to set up the Bulldogs in scoring position. Block scored from 24 yards out and Muncy hit Tucker Dixon for the 2-point conversion to set the final score 30-8. The Bulldogs offensive line and backs dominated the box; blocking for over 300 yards of offense against a very good defensive unit. The defense held D.C to their lowest scoring outing of the playoffs. The B-Team finished with a perfect season, 10-0. They outscored their opponents 324-40 for the season and playoffs. This is the first B-team Turf Bowl championship in LCYFL history.
The LCYFL C-Team comes up short against the D.C. Express in the Turf Bowl championship game. The C-Team came in on a long winning streak after capturing the championship last season. The Bulldogs got on the board in the first quarter on an Eli Block 12-yard touchdown run. The 2-point conversion was short which set the score 6-0. The Express scored in the 3rd quarter and was able to get the 2-point conversion to set the final score 8-6. The C-Team had a phenomenal 2 year run with a championship and runner-up. The C-Team finished with a 9-1 record for the season.
The LCYFL A-Team fell short to the Wayne Pioneers 18-14 in the Turf Bowl championship game. The A-Team were also coming off a championship run last year where they won the Turf Bowl. The A-Team got on the board in the first quarter with a 78 yard touchdown run from Carson Evans. The 2-point conversion was no good. Wayne answered with a touchdown in the 2nd quarter and the conversion failed making the score 6-6. Right before the half, Evans found Keagan Muncy on an 84 yard catch and score touchdown pass. Levi Hensley caught the 2- point conversion. Keagan Muncy intercepted a pass late in the 2nd quarter to set the score at 14-6 at the half. Wayne scored in the 3rd quarter to make the score 14-12 Bulldogs. In the 4th quarter, Wayne scored to set the final 18-14. The A-Team comes off a magical, historical run. This was the 4th consecutive Turf Bowl championship game for a large majority of the team. The A-Team finished the season with only 1 loss.
