RICHMOND – Eastern Kentucky University women’s basketball head coach Greg Todd has announced the addition of in-state guard Kenleigh Woods on National Signing Day. She will join the program for the 2025-26 season.
“We are very excited to welcome Kenleigh to our program, she is a tough-minded player and high IQ guard who can make an impact at EKU very quickly,” said Todd. “She has had an incredible career in basketball and soccer in high school and we cannot wait to get her on campus as we continue our chase towards a conference title.”
Woods, a 5-foot-6 point guard from Catlettsburg, is the first signee for the 2025 class for EKU and will join the program after a stellar playing career at Paul G. Blazer High School in Ashland, just over an hour east of campus.
In five seasons with Ashland Blazer, Woods has guided the team to five appearances in the Kentucky High School Athletic Association (KHSAA) 64th District Championship and five KHSAA 16th Region Tournaments – winning the region tournament during the 2022-23 season.
Last year, Woods averaged 22.1 points per game on 63.5 percent shooting and 38 percent shooting from beyond the arch. Ashland won the 64th District Championship and went far in the 16th Region Tournament, Woods was named All-Region, Second Team All-State, and was selected to participate in the Kentucky/Indiana All-Star game.
Her sophomore season, Woods and the Kittens defeated their in-district rival Boyd County in the 16th Region finals by 17 points to advance to the KHSAA Sweet 16. They opened the coveted event with a 12-point win over Knott County Central in the first round and fell in the elite eight to McCracken County. Woods averaged 18.6 points and 4.2 rebounds per game across the season, she was again named All-Area, All-State, All-Tournament, and joined her school’s 1,000-point club.
Woods began her prep career as a 7th grader and since she started with Ashland Blazer in 2019, she’s led the team to over 109 wins and has been named All-Region three times. She will enter her senior season this Winter with 1,539 career points.
