Lawrence County wins seventh straight district title

EASTERN — Lawrence County pulled away to defeat Floyd Central 12-2 in six innings in the 58th District Softball Tournament title game on Wednesday, May 25. A perennial championship contender, Lawrence County claimed its seventh straight district title. Lawrence County scored first and never trailed in the district tournament title game. The Lady Bulldogs led 6-0 before Floyd Central crossed home plate for the first time. Taylor Blevins earned the win in the circle for reigning champion Lawrence County. Blevins allowed two runs on five hits while recording 12 strikeouts. Cadyn Roberson took the loss in the circle for Floyd Central, which was playing on its home field. Lawrence County outhit Floyd Central 15-5. A contender for the 15th Region championship, Lawrence County scored 12 runs on 15 hits. Bree Jones (four hits, one RBI), Danielle Crum (two hits), Shelby Blevins (two hits, three RBIs), Abby Nelson (two hits, one RBI), Abby Maynard (two hits, one RBI), Kensley Feltner (two hits, one RBI), Gracie Preece (one hit, one RBI) and Ella Fitzpatrick (one RBI) contributed offensively for Lawrence County in the district championship-clinching win. Offensively for Floyd Central, Chelsea Johnson (two hits, one RBI), Chanda Caudill (one hit, one RBI) and Allyson Stumbo (one hit) contributed at the plate. Both Lawrence County and Floyd Central advanced to the 15th Region Softball Tournament.
