BELFRY — Making the most of its offensive opportunities, Lawrence County defeated Paintsville 3-1 in the semifinals of the 15th Region Baseball Tournament at Belfry High School on Saturday, May 28.
Following the win, Lawrence County (28-7) advanced to the 15th Region Baseball Tournament title game.
The loss eliminated Paintsville from the 15th Region Baseball Tournament.
Breaking open a scoreless game, Lawrence County erupted for three runs in the top half of the sixth inning.
Prior to suffering the season-ending loss, Paintsville plated one run during its final at-bat.
Luke Patton started on the mound for the Bulldogs and earned the win. Patton pitched a complete game, allowing one run on four hits and one walk while recording 12 strikeouts over seven innings.
Connor Fugate started on the mound for Paintsville and took the loss. Fugate allowed three runs on three hits while recording seven strikeouts over six innings.
Closing out the game on the mound for Paintsville, Zach Taylor pitched one inning.
Each team recorded four hits.
Blue Fletcher, Jake Derifield, Will Lafferty and Dylan Whitt each logged one hit for the Bulldogs. Whit delivered two RBIs while Derifield drove in one run.
Harris Phelps, Austin Allen, Gunner Collins and Ashton Miller provided one hit apiece for Paintsville in the season-ending loss.
Defensively, Paintsville committed one error.
Paintsville exited the 2022 high school baseball season 23-14.
