BELFRY — Paintsville, the home team on the scoreboard, shut Shelby Valley 6-0 in the opening round of the 15th Region Baseball Tournament at Belfry High School on Tuesday, May 24
After notching the win, Paintsville advanced to the semifinals of the 15th Region Baseball Tournament.
The loss eliminated Shelby Valley from the high school baseball postseason.
Paintsville broke open a scoreless game in the bottom half of the second inning, scoring three runs.
Adding to its lead late, Paintsville plated three runs during its last two at-bats.
Ashton Miller earned the win on the mound for the Tigers. Miller pitched a two-hit shutout, giving up one walk while recording nine strikeouts.
Jackson Robinson took the loss in the circle for the Wildcats.
Paintsville scored six runs on six hits. Harris Phelps (two hits), A.J. James (one hit, three RBIs), Gunner Collins (one hit, two RBIs), Austin Allen (one hit) and Jonah Porter (one hit) aided Paintsville at the plate in the shutout win.
Phelps drilled two doubles while Collins homered.
Hunter Mullins and Samuel Brown each singled for Shelby Valley in the season-ending loss.
Shelby Valley exited the 2022 high school baseball season 18-11.
