Lawrence County to host LCC for 2023-24 season opener

LOUISA — Defending 15th Region champion Lawrence County is scheduled to host Letcher County Central for its opener in the 2023-24 girls’ high school basketball season.

Both Lawrence County and Letcher County Central are perennial title contenders. Letcher County Central competes in the bordering 14th Region.

Familiar opponents, Lawrence County and Letcher County Central met once during the 2022-23 prep hoops campaign. Lawrence County pulled away to defeat Letcher County Central 73-60 in a game in Whitesburg on Dec. 6, 2022.

After making an appearance in the Girls’ Sweet 16 State Basketball Tournament, Lawrence County finished 30-6 in the 2022-23 season. Lawrence County compiled the best record among 15th Region girls’ basketball teams in the 2022-23 prep hoops campaign.

The Lady Bulldogs captured 15th Region, 57th District and 2A, Section 8 titles during the 2022-23 season.

Letcher County Central finished as the runner-up in both the 53rd District and the 14th Region during the 2022-23 season, compiling an 18-17 record.

Several familiar opponents await Lawrence County in the 2023-24 girls’ high school basketball season. Lawrence County’s 2023-24 schedule will include games versus Letcher County Central, Johnson Central, Pike County Central, Morgan County, Betsy Layne, Belfry, Prestonsburg, Perry County Central, Floyd Central, Wayne (W.Va.), Huntington St. Joseph (W.Va.), Pikeville, Betsy Layne, Russell, Shelby Valley and Greenup County, among others.

The Lady Bulldogs will open preseason practice in mid-October.
