Lawrence County rolls past Prestonsburg

STANVILLE — Lawrence County rolled past Prestonsburg 16-1 in four innings in the semifinals of the 58th District Softball Tournament at Betsy Layne on Monday, May 18.  

The Lady Bulldogs scored first and never trailed, forcing Prestonsburg to play from behind throughout the district tournament game.

Taylor Blevins pitched a complete game for Lawrence County and earned the win in the circle. Blevins recorded four strikeouts.

Ava Vanover started in the circle for Prestonsburg, pitched the opening inning and suffered the loss.

Contributing in the circle, Addison Wright made a relief appearance for the Lady Blackcats.

Lawrence County scored 16 runs on 14 hits in the 15-run win. Numerous Lawrence County players made an impact offensively. Blevins (two hits, one RBI), Emalynn Kitts (two hits, four RBIs), Addalyn Woods (two hits, two RBIs), Brinley Baisden (one hit, three RBIs), Emma Smith (one hit, one RBI), Gracie Woods (one hit, one RBI), Lexi Crum (one hit, one RBI) and Jada Patton (one hit) comprised a strong offensive attack for the Lady Bulldogs. Kitts, Baisden and Addalyn Woods each homered.

Prestonsburg avoided being shut out after facing a double-digit deficit. Offensively for Prestonsburg, Johnna Ward homered.

The win allowed Lawrence County to advance to the 58th District Softball Tournament championship game.
