Lawrence County outlasts Floyd Central

EASTERN — Lawrence County outlasted Floyd Central 59-54 in a 58th District girls’ basketball game on Friday, Jan. 17.
After registering the win, Lawrence County moved to 6-8 overall and 3-0 in the 58th District.
Lawrence County, which overcame a deficit late to register the district win, shot 39.2 percent (20-of-51) from the field. The Lady Bulldogs made three of 12 three-point field goal attempts.
Lawrence County shot 59.3 percent (16-of-27) from the free throw line.
Sophie Adkins led Lawrence County to the win, scoring a game-high 20 points and claiming nine rebounds. Adkins reached a milestone, scoring her 2,000th career point.
Joining Adkins in double figures for Lawrence County, Jada Patton scored 13 points and Abby Maynard netted 10 points.
Along with the three players in double figures, Maddison Artrip (five points), Gracie Woods (four points), Caroline See (four points), Addison Bloomfield (two points) and Emalynn Kitts (one point) produced offensively for the Lady Bulldogs.
Floyd Central shot 34.0 percent (16-of-47) from the field. The Lady Jaguars made one of six three-point field goal attempts.
Floyd Central shot 72.4 percent (21-of-29) from the free throw line.
Maddy Engle scored a game-high 20 points for the Lady Jaguars.
Joining Engle in double figures for Floyd Central, Chloe Crase scored 17 points and Reagan Laferty netted 14 points. Laferty recorded a double-double for Floyd Central, pulling in 11 rebounds.
Finishing outside double figures, Carmen Rackey (two points) and Allie Adkins (one point) chipped in offensively for Floyd Central.
