Lawrence County opens hoops season 3-0

LOUISA — Lawrence County opened the 2020-21 girls' high school basketball season 3-0 after notching wins over Pike County Central, East Carter and Hazard.

Pike County Central 44
Lawrence County rolled to a win in its season opener, dismantling former district rival Pike County Central 75-44 on Monday, Jan. 4.
Reigning 58th District champion Lawrence County shot 50 percent (31-of-62) from the field. The Lady Bulldogs were 10-of-24 (41.7 percent) from 3-point range.
Sophie Adkins, Brooke Neal and Kensley Feltner scored 19 points apiece to lead Lawrence County to the win.
Accompanying a trio of her teammates in double figures in scoring, Tyra Hammond added 10 points for the Lady Bulldogs.
Abby Nelson paced Lawrence County inside, pulling down eight rebounds.

East Carter 65
Continuing to win early in the 2020-21 girls high school basketball season, Lawrence County beat visiting East Carter 71-65 on Thursday, Jan. 7.
Lawrence County shot 46.2 percent (24-of-52) from the field. The Lady Bulldogs were 6-of-14 from 3-point range.
Brooke Neal scored 23 points to pace Lawrence County. Neal was 5-of-6 from 3-point range.
Following Neal in scoring for the Lady Bulldogs, Kensley Feltner netted 21 points while Kaison Ward added 10 points.
Feltner and Ward grabbed nine rebounds apiece for Lawrence County in the win.
East Carter shot only 28.8 percent (19-of-66) from the field. The Lady Raiders were only 2-for-13 from 3-point range.
However, East Carter managed to shoot 73.5 percent (25-of-34) from the free throw line.
Alyssa Stickler poured in a game-high 31 points to lead East Carter. Stickler was 13-of-14 from the free throw line.
Accompanying Stickler in double figures in scoring for the Lady Raiders, Avery Hall added 11 points.
Nearly recording a double-double for East Carter, Jascie Greene netted nine points and puled down 11 rebounds.
Lawrence County 64, Hazard 63: Lawrence County held on to edge former 14th Region title winner Hazard 64-63 in an early-season girls' high school basketball game on Saturday, Jan. 9.
The victory allowed Lawrence County to move to 3-0.
Lawrence County shot 43.2 percent (19-of-44) from the field in the win. The Lady Bulldogs were 5-of-22 from 3-point range.
Lawrence County shot 80.8 percent (21-of-26) from the free throw line,
Kensley Feltner scored 27 points and claimed 12 rebounds to lead Lawrence County to the win.
Joining Feltner in double figures in scoring for the Lady Bulldogs, Brooke Neal netted 14 points.
