Blanton headed into 2021 season

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Marshall University junior shortstop Geordon Blanton, a Johnson Central High School graduate, is headed into the 2021 college baseball season.
Excelling on the diamond earlier in the year, Blanton was one of four players to start in all 16 games for Marshall during the shortened 2020 college baseball season. He hit .292 with 19 hits in a team-high 65 at-bats, adding two doubles and 10 RBI with a .431 slugging percentage. The Johnson Central product scored a team-high 14 runs. Blanton led Marshall with six stolen bases and tied for the team lead in home runs (2) and walks (7). He hit Marshall’s first grand slam since 2016 on March 8 against Akron, where his 4 RBI set a career-high. Blanton delivered a season-high three hits against Canisius on March 1 and scored all three runs in a 3-2 win on March 11 at longtime rival Ohio.
Marshall competes in Conference USA. The Thundering Herd concluded the 2020 college baseball season 5-10-1.
One of the top student-athletes in Johnson Central High School history, Blanton is a former state champion in football and wrestling. Blanton was named Kentucky Male Athlete of the Year in 2017. He was a two-time state wrestling champion in high school.
