Lawrence County holds off Prestonsburg

LOUISA — Lawrence County pushed past Prestonsburg 68-60 in a 58th District girls’ basketball game on Friday, Jan. 23.
Reigning 58th District champion Lawrence County shot 39.2 percent (20-of-51) from the field. The Lady Bulldogs shot 35.7 percent (five-of-14) from three-point range.
Lawrence County shot 71.9 percent (23-of-32) from the free throw line.
Brooke Marcum paced Lawrence County, scoring a game-high 24 points for the Lady Bulldogs.
Joining Marcum in double figures for Lawrence County, Jada Patton scored 16 points, and Maddison Artrip netted 14 points.
Finishing in single digits, Gracie Woods (six points), Emalynn Kitts (four points), Caroline See (three points) and Addison Bowen (one point) accounted for Lawrence County’s additional scoring.
Prestonsburg shot 37.0 percent (20-of-54) from the field. The Lady Blackcats shot 23.5 percent (four-of-17) from three-point range.
Prestonsburg shot 66.7 percent (16-of-24) from the free throw line.
Lakien Stephens paced Prestonsburg. Stephens recorded a double-double, scoring 17 points and corralling a game-high 13 rebounds.
Joining Stephens in double figures, Jade Fitzpatrick scored 13 points for the Lady Blackcats.
Narrowly missing double figures for Prestonsburg, Amelia Newsome netted nine points.
