Lawrence County falls to Rowan County in overtime

OWENSBORO — Rowan County prevented Lawrence County from advancing in the 2A Girls’ Basketball State Tournament, beating the Lady Bulldogs 70-64 in overtime during the opening round of the statewide event at the Owensboro Sportscenter on Friday, Jan. 13.

Excelling after regulation, Rowan County doubled up the Lady Bulldogs 12-6 in overtime to claim the win.

Rowan County, which clung to a 31-30 lead at halftime, shot 37.5 percent (21 of 56) from the field. The Lady Vikings connected on five of 24 three-point field-goal attempts.

Rowan County shot 71.9 percent (23 of 32) from the free throw line and edged Lawrence County 29-28 in rebounding.

The Lady Vikings led 44-31 at the end of the third quarter.

Haven Ford led Rowan County with a game-high double-double, scoring 29 points and hauling in 17 rebounds.

Along with Ford reaching double figures in scoring for Rowan County, Katie Chandler added 15 points and Olivia Beach contributed 12.

The other scorers for Rowan County were Kandace Chandler (eight points), Diamond Wills (four points) and Brynlee Walker (two points).

Lawrence County shot 53.3 percent (24 of 45) from the field in the tournament game. The Lady Bulldogs shot 43.8 percent (seven of 16) from three-point range.

Lawrence County, which outscored Rowan County 17-14 in the fourth quarter to tie the game 58-58 and send it into overtime, shot 64.3 percent (nine of 14) from the free-throw line.

Kensley Feltner scored 27 points and pulled down eight rebounds to lead Lawrence County in the tournament game.

Following Feltner, Sophie Adkins scored 16 points for the Lady Bulldogs.

Nearly recording a double-double for Lawrence County, Kaison Ward scored 12 points and pulled down nine rebounds.

Providing the rest of Lawrence County’s scoring, Abby Nelson added six points and Abby Maynard contributed three points.
