Lawrence County falls to Pikeville

LOUISA — In a rematch of the 2021-22 15th Region girls’ basketball title game, reigning champion Pikeville upended Lawrence County 68-53 on Tuesday, Jan. 31.

Pikeville shot 46.7 percent (28 of 60) from the field in its win over Lawrence County. The Lady Panthers made nine of 24 three-point field goal attempts, shooting 37.5 percent (nine of 24) from beyond the arc.

Pikeville shot only 42.9 percent (three of seven) from the free-throw line but outrebounded Lawrence County 27-25.

Trinity Rowe scored a game-high 26 points to lead Pikeville to the win.

Pikeville featured three scorers in double figures with Kristen Whited adding 16 points and Leighan Jackson contributing 11 points.

Nearly registering a double-double for Pikeville, Rylee Theiss posted nine points and 14 rebounds.

Helping Pikeville to the win, Kyera Thornsburg finished with six points and five rebounds.

Lawrence County managed to shot 46.5 percent (20 of 43) from the field. The Lady Bulldogs made four of 13 three-point field goal attempts.

Lawrence County shot 64.3 percent (nine of 14) from the free-throw line.

Kensley Feltner scored 23 points to lead Lawrence County in the 15th Region girls’ basketball matchup. Feltner was the only player from Lawrence County to reach double figures in scoring.

Finishing near double figures for Lawrence County, Sophie Adkins scored nine points and Kaison Ward netted eight points.

Delivering Lawrence County’s other scoring, Leandra Curnutte added seven points and Abby Nelson contributed six points.
