Johnson Central fends off Paintsville 44-39

PAINTSVILLE — Completing a regular-season sweep, Johnson Central defeated Paintsville 44-39 in a 57th District girls’ basketball matchup on Friday, Feb. 3.

Johnson Central shot 37.5 percent (12 of 32) from the field. The Lady Eagles made eight of 16 attempts beyond the arc, shooting 50 percent from three-point range.

Johnson Central shot 60 percent (12 of 20) from the free throw line.

Kaylyn McKenzie scored a game-high 18 points and hauled down seven rebounds to lead Johnson Central to the district win. Finishing directly behind the game’s leading scorer, Taylor McKenzie netted 17 points for the Lady Eagles.

Sophie Younce added six points and Becca Wright contributed three points as Johnson Central won the district game.

Paintsville shot 30.3 percent (10 of 33) from the field. The Lady Tigers finished six-of-25 from three-point range.

Paintsville shot 68.4 percent (13 of 19) from the free throw line.

Kayllyn Vannoy paced Paintsville with 15 points. Following Vannoy in scoring for Paintsville, Kylie Kinner netted 13 points.

Contributing for Paintsville in the district contest, Emilea Preece posted eight points and Camryn Helton added three points.
