Lawrence County falls to Betsy Layne in district matchup

LOUISA — Betsy Layne pulled off an upset in a 58th District girls’ basketball opener, edging Lawrence County 48-45 on Friday, Dec. 5.

Lawrence County led 24-19 at halftime but was limited in the third quarter. Betsy Layne outscored Lawrence County 18-7 in the third quarter to move ahead in the district matchup.

Jaden Pente scored a team-high 12 points for Betsy Layne in its district win.  

Joining Pente in double figures for Betsy Layne, Kinleigh Martin netted 10 points while claiming nine rebounds.

Seven players scored for the Ladycats. The other scorers for Betsy Layne were Mady Collins (eight points), Kennedi Allen (six points), Jayden Jarrell (five points), Amari Anderson (four points) and Laiken Keathley (three points).

Jarrell excelled inside for Betsy Layne, claiming a game-high 12 rebounds.

Maddison Artrip and Emalynn Kitts scored 10 points apiece for Lawrence County in the district game. Following the two scorers in double figures, Jada Patton (eight points), Gracie Woods (seven points), Caroline See (four points), Lilly Fitzpatrick (three points) and Addison Bowen (two points) supplied the additional scoring for the host team.
