Blair leads Golden Eagles in win over Lewis County

VANCEBURG — Cooper Blair, a sophomore guard/forward, poured in a game-high 31 points as Johnson Central defeated Lewis County 78-53 in a boys’ high school basketball season opener on Monday, Dec. 1.

Blair made six of 14 three-point field goal attempts.

Johnson Central shot 49.2 percent (29-of-59) from the field. The Golden Eagles shot 40.0 percent (10-of-25) from three-point range.

Johnson Central shot 71.4 percent (10-of-14) from the free throw line.

Brayden Shepherd accompanied Blair in double figures for perennial 15th Region title contender Johnson Central, scoring 18 points.

Several players produced both offensively and defensively for the Golden Eagles. Johnson Central received scoring from 10 different players. Austin Slone (six points), Mason McKenzie (five points), Alex Marcum (four points), Kyle Rose (four points), Jaidon Daniel (three points), Cooper Daniels (three points), Andrew Collins (two points) and Kaleb Callaham (two points) were Johnson Central’s additional scorers.

Rose paced Johnson Central inside, claiming 10 rebounds for the Golden Eagles.
