Lawrence County defeats Pike County Central 56-49

BUCKLEY CREEK — Notching its third straight win, Lawrence County defeated Pike County Central 56-49 in a girls’ high school basketball game on Thursday, Feb. 8.

Lawrence County improved to 15-8 after posting the win.

As a result of the loss, Pike County Central dropped to 13-10.

Lawrence County shot 30.4 percent (17-of-56) from the field in the victory over Pike County Central. The Lady Bulldogs shot 33.3 percent (seven-of-21) from three-point range.

Lawrence County shot 65.2 percent (15-of-23) from the free throw line.

Nearly recording a double-double, Sophie Adkins scored 25 points and secured nine rebounds to lead Lawrence County to the win. Adkins, who was the only Lawrence County player to reach double figures, led everyone in scoring and rebounding.

Narrowly missing double figures for Lawrence County, Kaison Ward netted nine points.

Contributing to the win, Leandra Curnutte (seven points), Abby Maynard (seven points), Jada Patton (six points) and Abby Nelson (two points) delivered Lawrence County’s additional scoring.

Pike County Central shot 32.7 percent (16-of-49) from the field. The Lady Hawks made two of 10 three-point field goal attempts.

Pike County Central shot 93.8 percent (15-of-16) from the free throw line.

Hannah May scored 22 points to pace Pike County Central in the matchup.

Joining May in double figures for Pike County Central, Abigail Hess scored 10 points.

Finishing outside double figures, Larah Stanley (eight points), Abby May (four points), Jadyn Looney (three points) and Lindsey Bowman (three points) were Pike County Central’s other scorers.
