Lawrence County captures 15th Region title

PRESTONSBURG — Lawrence County outlasted Belfry 13-10 in the 15th Region Softball Tournament title game at StoneCrest on Thursday, May 30.

After registering the win, Lawrence County advanced to the KHSAA Softball State Tournament.

Lawrence County claimed its third 15th Region softball title.

Brooklyn Ellis pitched four and two-innings in relief for Lawrence County and earned the win in the circle. Ellis recorded eight strikeouts.

Taylor Blevins started in the circle for Lawrence County and pitched two and one-third innings. Blevins struck out one Belfry batter.

Molly Fahm pitched a complete game for Belfry and took the loss in the circle. Fahm recorded six strikeouts over six innings.

Lawence County, under the direction of Coach Justin Adkins, scored 13 runs on 11 hits. Jada Patton (three hits), Addalyn Woods (two hits, four RBIs), Bree Jones (two hits, two RBIs), Ella Smith (two hits, one RBI), Hallie Adkins (one hit, one RBI), Dani Crum (one hit) and Abby Maynard (one RBI) each delivered offensively for the Lady Bulldogs. Woods doubled twice in Lawrence County’s championship-clinching win.

Belfry plated 10 runs on 11 hits. Fahm (two hits, three RBIs), Makaylin Meade (three hits, four RBIs), Natalie Fite (two hits), Myra Blevins (two hits), Baylor Hall (one hit) and Alara Adkins (one hit, one RBI) each made an impact at the plate for Belfry during the 15th Region title game.

Lawrence County is set to meet 1st Region champion McCracken County in the opening round of the KHSAA Softball Tournament at the University of Kentucky’s John Cropp Stadium at 8:30 p.m. on Friday, June 7.

15th Region Softball Tournament Honors: Jada Patton, Brooklyn Ellis, Addalyn Woods, Taylor Blevins and Bree Jones represented champion Lawrence County on the All-15th Region Softball Tournament Team. Patton was named the 15th Region Softball Tournament MVP.
