Golden Eagles take 57th District championship

INEZ — Johnson Central outlasted crosstown rival Paintsville 5-4 in eight innings in the 57th District Baseball Tournament championship game at Martin County on Tuesday, May 21.

The Golden Eagles pushed across one run in the bottom half of the eighth inning to claim the 57th District championship.

Brock Butcher earned the win on the mound for the Golden Eagles. Butcher pitched three innings in relief and posted four strikeouts.

Dawson Montgomery started on the mound for Johnson Central and pitched five innings. Montgomery recorded 10 strikeouts.

Anderson Lauffer started on the mound for Paintsville and took the loss. Lauffer pitched four innings and logged five strikeouts.

Johnson Central scored five runs on eight hits. Butcher (one hit, one RBI), Kyler Callaham (three hits), Kaleb Callaham (two hits, one RBI), Ethan McCarty (one hit), Boston Crace (one hit) and Cameron Kelsey (one RBI) each aided the Golden Eagles offensively.

Paintsville plated four runs on seven hits. Horne (two hits), Shane Blair (two hits), Luke Stratton (one hit, two RBIs), Alex Kimbler (one hit, one RBI) and Alex Johnson (one hit) each contributed offensively for the Tigers.

Both Johnson Central (20-15) and Paintsville (19-18) advanced to the 15th Region Baseball Tournament.
