PRESTONSBURG – Lawrence County blanked Betsy Layne 11-0 in five innings in the semifinals of the 58th District Baseball Tournament at Prestonsburg Sportspark on Saturday, May 29.
After notching the win, Lawrence County advanced to the 58th District Baseball Tournament title game.
The loss eliminated Betsy Layne from he high school baseball postseason.
Jake Derifield earned the win on the mound for the Bulldogs. Derifield allowed two hits and zero runs over five innings, striking out four and walking one.
Byron Tackett took the pitching loss for the Bobcats. Tackett pitched four innings, allowing 11 runs on 12 hits and striking out two.
Lawrence County outhit Betsy Layne 12-2 in the district tournament matchup.
Abner Collinsworth, Ethan Whitt and Jacob Fletcher each recorded multiple hits for the Bulldogs. Collinsworth went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Lawrence County's offensive effort.
Whitt delivered three RBIs while Collinsworth and Fletcher drove in two runs apiece.
Keaton Brown and Matthew Dudleson recorded one hit apiece for the Bulldogs in the season-ending loss.
The Bobcats fell behind early after Lawrence County pushed across one run in the bottom half of the first inning and never answered.
Betsy Layne struggled defensively, committing six errors.
