Lawrence County beats Betsy Layne 66-50

LOUISA — Lawrence County shook off a slow start to beat Betsy Layne 66-50 in a 58th District girls’ basketball game on Friday, Dec. 8.
Reigning 15th Region champion Lawrence County shot 54.9 percent (28-of-51) from the field. The Lady Bulldogs made one of 10 three-point field goal attempts.
Lawrence County, which improved to 4-1 overall and opened 1-0 in the 58th District, shot 69.2 percent (nine-of-13) from the free throw line.
Productive inside, Lawrence County outrebounded Betsy Layne 32-19.
Supplying a double-double, Sophie Adkins scored 21 points and pulled down 10 rebounds to lead Lawrence County to the district win.
Following Adkins in scoring for Lawrence County, Jada Patton netted 16 points.
Joining Adkins and Patton in double figures, Leandra Curnutte added 11 points for the Lady Bulldogs.
Lawrence County’s offensive effort in the district game included additional scorers Abby Maynard (six points), Kaison Ward (six points), Hallie Adkins (two points), Abby Nelson (two points) and Addison Bloomfield (two points).
Betsy Layne shot 40.9 percent (18-of-44) from the field. The Lady Cats shot 35.3 percent (six-of-17) from three-point range.
Betsy Layne shot 72.7 percent (eight-of-11) from the free throw line in the district matchup.
Haleigh Damron scored 17 points to lead the Lady Cats. Following Damron in double figures for Betsy Layne, Kinleigh Martin scored 13 points and Jaden Pente netted 12 points.
In addition to the three scorers in double figures, Christian Howell (four points), Jayden Jarrell (two points) and Karly Williams (two points) made an impact offensively for the Lady Cats.
