Bulldogs outlast Bobcats in overtime

LOUISA — Returning to the win column, Lawrence County outlasted Betsy Layne 65-58 in overtime in a 58th District boys’ basketball game on Friday, Dec. 8.

The Bulldogs returned to the win column after suffering back-to-back losses to Morgan County and Portsmouth (Ohio). With the win, Lawrence County improved to 3-2 overall and opened 1-0 in the 58th District.

Lawrence County overcame shooting 32.8 percent (22-of-67) from the field to claim the district win. The Bulldogs made six of 23 three-point field goal attempts.

Lawrence County shot 71.4 percent (15-of-21) from the free throw line and outrebounded Betsy Layne 41-38.

Recording a double-double, Andrew Bloomfield scored 24 points and pulled down 11 rebounds to lead Lawrence County to the district win.

In addition to Bloomfield reaching double figures for Betsy Layne, Logan Ratliff scored 13 points and Luke Fetherholf netted 10 points.

Finishing in single digits, Blake Marcum (seven points), Hayden Perry (seven points) and Ford Scaggs (four points) were Lawrence County’s additional scorers.

Betsy Layne shot 31 percent (18-of-58) from the field. The Bobcats made seven of 26 three-point field goal attempts.

Betsy Layne shot 71.4 percent (15-of-21) from the free throw line.

Tanner Martin scored 13 points to lead the Bobcats. Along with Martin reaching double figures for Betsy Layne, Carter Parsons scored 12 points and Andrew Kidd netted 11 points.

The other scorers for Betsy Layne in the district game were Brayden Hall (eight points), Cameron Pente (six points), Grayson Hall (three points), Tanner Hall (two points), Landon Howell (two points) and Isaiah Allen (one point).
