LOUISA — Lawrence County connected on multiple shots down the stretch to defeat visiting Magoffin County 70-62 in a boys' high school basketball game on Tuesday, Dec. 14.
The Bulldogs and Hornets, former 57th District rivals, met in the third week of the 2021-22 boys' high school basketball season.
Lawrence County shot 46.9 percent (30-of-64) from the field. The Bulldogs shot 43.5 percent (10-of-23) from three-point range.
Lawrence County didn't attempt a free throw during the non-district matchup.
Anthony Johnson poured in a game-high 27 points to lead Lawrence County to the win.
Following Johnson in double figures for Lawrence County, Cody Maynard added 18 points.
Recording a double-double for the Bulldogs, Trenton Adkins netted 16 points and claimed 11 rebounds.
Magoffin County shot 49.1 percent (27-of-55) from the field. The Hornets shot 36.4 percent (four-of-11) from three-point range.
Magoffin County connected on all four of its free throw attempts in the early-season boys' high school basketball game.
Aden Barnett scored a team-high 21 points to pace the Hornets. Accompanying Barnett in double figures in scoring for Magoffin County, Ben Lafferty scored 19 points and Zane Lafferty netted 15 points. Lafferty and Whitaker each recorded a double-double, pulling down 12 rebounds and 10 rebounds, respectively.
