Golden Eagles beat 75-60 Betsy Layne for first win

PAINTSVILLE — Johnson Central pulled away to beat visiting Betsy Layne for its first win in the 2021-22 boys' high school basketball season at Paul R. Setser Fieldhouse on Wednesday, Dec. 15, winning 75-60.

Following the win, Johnson Central improved to 1-3.

Johnson Central dealt Betsy Layne its first loss in the 2021-22 boys' high school basketball season.

The Golden Eagles shot 44.1 percent (26-of-59) from the field. Johnson Central finished five-of-19 from three-point range.

The Golden Eagles shot 75 percent (18-of-24) from the free throw line.

Controlling the backboards, Johnson Central outrebounded Betsy Layne 41-25.

Ryleh McKenzie led Johnson Central to the win, scoring a game-high 20 points for the Golden Eagles.

Johnson Central featured four scorers in double figures as Ryan Rose added 16 points, Grant Rice contributed 14 points and Jacob Butcher posted a double-double, scoring 12 points and pulling down a game-high 18 rebounds.

Narrowly missing double figures for the Golden Eagles, Connor Lemaster tossed in nine points.

Betsy Layne (3-1) shot 39.3 percent (22-of-56) from the field. The Bobcats shot 34.6 percent (nine-of-26) from three-point range.

Betsy Layne shot 58.3 percent (seven-of-12) from the free throw line.

Brady Robinson scored a team-high 16 points to lead the Bobcats. Joining Robinson in double figures for Betsy Layne, Jordan Frazier scored 15 points and Chase Mims netted 12 points.

Flirting with double figures for Betsy Layne, Shawn Dee Howell added nine points.

The Golden Eagles and Bobcats aren't scheduled to meet again in the 2021-22 boys' high school basketball season.
