PRESTONSBURG — Lawrence County has won its third straight 15th Region softball championship.
Remaining on top, Lawrence County pulled away to defeat rival Johnson Central 8-1 in the 15th Region Softball Tournament championship game at StoneCrest on Thursday, May 28.
Lawrence County scored first in the 15th Region championship game, manufacturing three runs during the bottom half of the opening inning,
Lawrence Couty led 6-0 after its fourth at bat.
Johnson Central plated its lone run during the top half of the fifth inning.
Extending its lead, Lawrence County added two more runs during the home portion of the sixth frame.
Taylor Blevins pitched a complete game for Lawrence County and earned the win in the circle. Blevins recorded four strikeouts.
Bella Bowen started in the circle for Johnson Central and suffered the loss. Bowen pitched three and two-thirds innings and posted four strikeouts.
Behind Bowen, Molly Music pitched two and one-third innings in relief for the Lady Eagles.
Lawrence County scored eight runs on seven hits. Addalyn Woods (two hits, three RBIs), Skyler Horn (two hits), Emalynn Kitts (one hit, one RBI), Jada Patton (one hit, one RBI) and Aleaha Gillispie (one hit) were each productive offensively for Lawrence County in the 15th Region championship-clinching victory. Showing power at the plate, Woods homered twice. Connecting for another extra-base hit, Kitts doubled.
Johnson Central plated one run on four hits. Bowen (one hit, one RBI), Malli Price (two hits) and Josie Dials (one hit) provided Johnson Central’s offense.
Lawrence County (23-12) is set to meet 11th Region Champion Madison Central (26-8) in the opening round of the KHSAA Softball State Tournament presented by UK HealthCare at John Cropp Stadium in Lexington at 5 p.m. on Thursday, June 4.
