STANVILLE — Returning to the top, Lawrence County defeated Prestonsburg 61-56 in the 58th District Girls’ Basketball Tournament title game at Betsy Layne on Wednesday, Feb. 26.
After registering the win, Lawrence County improved to 13-12.
Lawrence County shot 37 percent (17-of-46) form the field. The Lady Bulldogs connected on five of 19 three-point field goal attempts.
Lawrence County shot 71 percent (22-of-31) from the free throw line.
Sophie Adkins led Lawrence County to the district championship-clinching win. Barely missing a double-double, Adkins scored 29 points and hauled in nine rebounds for the Lady Bulldogs.
Joining Adkins in double figures for Lawrence County, Jada Patton and Maddison Artrip netted 15 points apiece.
Chipping in offensively for Lawrence County, Addison Bloomfield added two points.
Jade Fitzpatrick scored a team-high 13 points for Prestonsburg in the district tournament title game. Following Fitzpatrick in Prestonsburg’s scoring column, Allison Howard netted 11 points.
Eight different players provided scoring for Prestonsburg in the district championship matchup. The other scorers for Prestonsburg were Ashley Tackett (eight points), Audrey Prater (eight points), Addison Wright (five points), Kendyl Stephens (five points), Amelia Newsome (four points) and Sierra Slone (two points).
