Lady Bulldogs capture 2A, Section 8 title

BUCKLEY CREEK — Lawrence County shut out Pike County Central 9-0 in the 2A, Section 8 Softball Tournament title game on Saturday, April 13.

Following the shutout win, Lawrence County advances to the 2A Softball State Tournament.

Taylor Blevins pitched a three-hit shutout for the Lady Bulldogs. Earning the win in the circle, Blevins recorded 14 strikeouts.

Pike County Central pitcher Chloe Hannah suffered the loss in the circle.

Lawrence County scored nine runs on 13 hits. Hallie Adkins (two hits, two RBIs), Jada Patton (two hits, one RBI), Brooklyn Ellis (two hits, one RBI), Gracie Preece (two hits, one RBI), Addalyn Woods (two hits), Abby Maynard (one hit, two RBIs), Dani Crum (one hit) and Bree Jones (one hit) each excelled at the plate in Lawrence County’s shutout win. Both Maynard and Ellis homered for Lawrence County in the sectional tournament title game.

After posting the win, Lawrence County moved to 15-0.

Lawrence County is scheduled to meet Warren East in the opening round of the 2A, Section 8 Softball State Tournament at Fisher Park in Owensboro at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 19.

Lawrence County 16, Magoffin County 2 (5 innings): Lawrence County defeated Magoffin County 16-2 in five innings in the semifinals of the 2A, Section 8 Softball Tournament on Wednesday, April 10.

Taylor Blevins claimed the win in the circle for the Lady Bulldogs. Blevins limited Magoffin County to two runs on three hits and recorded 11 strikeouts.

Magoffin starting pitcher Laney Bledsoe suffered the loss in the circle. In addition to Bledsoe, Magoffin County sent Jaden Williams and Ava Hensley to the circle to pitch during the tournament game.

Lawrence County scored 16 runs on 15 hits. Dani Crum (four hits, five RBIs), Bree Jones (three hits, two RBIs), Addalyn Woods (three hits, one RBI), Abby Nelson (two hits, one RBI), Abby Maynard (one hit, two RBIs), Gracie Preece (one hit, one RBI) and Brooklyn Ellis (one hit) each produced as part of Lawrence County’s offensive attack. Both Crum and Jones homered for Lawrence County in the tournament matchup.
