BETSY LAYNE — Visiting Lawrence County blanked Betsy Layne 22-0 in three innings in its 58th District softball opener on Thursday, March 31.
Lawrence County moved ahead early and pulled away to beat 58th District opponent Betsy Layne convincingly.
Allie Triplett earned the win in the circle for the Lady Bulldogs. Triplett allowed only one hit and pitched a shutout while recording eight strikeouts.
Gracie Preece led Lawrence County at the plate, homering in the first inning and delivering four RBIs.
Shelby Blevins and Abby Nelson each recorded two hits and three RBIs for the Lady Bulldogs.
Aiding Lawrence County’s offensive attack, Dani Crum, Kensley Feltner, Bree Jones and Ella Fitzpatrick supplied two RBIs each.
The Lady Bulldogs returned to the win column following a loss to Lincoln County (W.Va.) one day earlier. Lincoln County defeated Lawrence County 9-1 in a high school softball game on Wednesday, March 30.
Lawrence County was competing at the Cal Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina at press time on Tuesday, April 5.

Lawrence County faced a deficit early and couldn’t battle back as Lincoln County (W.Va.) won 9-1 in a high school softball game on Wednesday, March 30.
Lincoln County outhit the Bulldogs 13-9 and committed only one error.
Meghan Stump earned the win in the circle for Lincoln County.
Taylor Blevins suffered the pitching loss for the Lady Bulldogs.
Dani Crum plated Lawrence County’s lone run on an RBI double. Abby Nelson crossed home plate to score the Bulldogs’ only run.
Contributing at the plate for Lawrence County, Kensley Feltner and Abby Maynard each provided two singles.
Lawrence County committed two errors in the setback.
