KHSAA approves nine-week football season; openers set for Sept. 11

LEXINGTON — The Kentucky High School Athletic Association Board of Control passed a motion to approve a nine-week football season during its meeting on Tuesday, July 28. Gridiron teams from across the state will kick off the 2020 high school football season on September 11. Kentucky high school football squads can start practice on August 24. Games previously scheduled for Aug. 21, Aug. 28 and Sept. 3 will not be played unless rescheduled for later in the fall. The high school football postseason will open on November 13. The prep football playoffs will continue to be made up of five rounds. The high school football state championship games in all six classes are scheduled for Dec. 11-12. Area high school football teams resumed offseason workouts in June. High school football programs throughout the state are working to finalize 2020 regular-season schedules. Multiple area prep football programs still have open dates to fill for the upcoming campaign.
