Cross country, volleyball seasons to start Sept. 7

LEXINGTON — The Kentucky High School Athletic Association Board of Control approved a motion to set the planned starting date for interscholastic competition in the fall sports of cross country, field hockey, soccer and volleyball at September 7 during its meeting on Tuesday, July 28. The Board of Control set the starting practice date for August 24 for the fall sports. Practice time will be limited to 7.5 hours for the first week. The Board of Control set limitations on participants in uniforms, approving a recommendation to help ensure appropriate social distancing. The limits per contest are as follows: Cross Country (10), Field Hockey (24), Football (60), Soccer (24) and Volleyball (15). The 2020 Kentucky high school golf season is slated to open on Friday, July 31. Through August 23, the KHSAA will remain in Segment 3, which limits practices to groups of 50 subgrouped into 10 or fewer. Currently, there is a six-hour limit on practice time per week. Area high school student-athletes are busy preparing for various fall sports seasons.
