INEZ - Martin County High School senior center Trey James has committed to Iona College.
Rick Pitino, who previously served as head coach at both the University of Louisville and the University of Kentucky, guides the Gaels. Along with Iona, which is located in New Rochelle, N.Y., James holds scholarship offers from Appalachian State, Eastern Kentucky, Elon, Iowa, Tennessee Tech and Wake Forest. The Martin County center decommitted from Wake Forest in April. James was named a Second Team All-State selection following the conclusion of the 2019-20 boys' high school basketball season. The Herald-Leader honored James as an Second Team All-State selection. James helped to lead Martin County to the 2019-20 15th Region boys' basketball title in March. Through 34 games for the Cardinals in the 2019-20 boys' high school basketball season, James averaged a double-double of 14.8 points and 11.1 rebounds. Iona competes in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC). The Gaels ended the 2019-20 men's college basketball season 12-17.
