Kensley Feltner moves into fifth-place on state’s all-time scoring list

PRESTONSBURG — Kensley Feltner scored 26 points and claimed 10 rebounds to lead Lawrence County past Prestonsburg 67-31 in a 58th District girls’ basketball game on Friday, Jan. 27.

With her effort in the district game, Feltner moved into fifth place on the state’s all-time scoring list.

Lawrence County shot 46.9 percent (23-of-49) from the field in the district win. The Lady Bulldogs knocked down eight of 19 three-point field goal attempts, shooting 42.1 percent from three-point range.

Lawrence County shot 81.2 percent (13-of-16) from the free throw line.

Along with Feltner’s leading performance, Kaison Ward scored 10 points the Lady Bulldogs.

Finishing one shot short of reaching double figures for Lawrence County, Leandra Curnutte netted eight points.

Lawrence County received scoring from nine different players.

The other scorers for Lawrence County in the district matchup were Sophie Adkins (six points), Abby Nelson (six points), Jada Patton (four points), Emmallee Holt (three points), Caroline See (two points) and Madison Artrip (two points).

Allison Howard scored 10 points to pace Prestonsburg in the district game.

Audrey Prater (six points), Kylie Tackett (five points), Jade Fitzpatrick (three points), Haley Lafferty (three points), Celina Mullins (two points) and Ashley Tackett (two points) followed Howard in the Prestonsburg scoring column.

Floyd Central 46

Kensley Feltner scored 31 points and claimed 11 rebounds to lead visiting Lawrence County past Floyd Central 58-46 in a 58th District girls’ basketball game on Wednesday, Jan. 25.

Nearly automatic in a key area, Lawrence County shot 90 percent (nine-of-10) from the free throw line.

Sophie Adkins joined Feltner in double figures for Lawrence County, scoring 10 points.

Key to Lawrence County’s district win, Kaison Ward added seven points and 10 rebounds.

Chipping in offensively for Lawrence County, Abby Nelson and Leandra Curnutte added four points apiece while Abby Maynard chipped in two points.

Kennedy Harvel scored a team-high 17 points for Floyd Central in the district contest. Harvel was the only Floyd Central player to reach double figures in scoring.

The other scorers for Floyd Central were Chelsea Johnson (seven points), Madi Meade (six points), Jada Johnson (six points), Riley Compton (six points), Allie Adkins (two points) and Hannah Laferty (two points).

Johnson and Compton combined to pace Floyd Central inside, securing 11 rebounds and 10 rebounds, respectively.
