ASHLAND — Boyd County pulled away to beat visiting Johnson Central 87-61 on Tuesday, Jan. 24.
The Lions limited the Golden Eagles throughout the boys’ high school basketball game.
Boyd County shot 42.9 percent (30 of 70) from the field in the win over Johnson Central. The Lions shot 38.2 (13 of 34) from three-point range.
Boyd County shot 73.7 percent (14 of 19) from the free throw line and received double figures scoring from four different players.
The Lions managed to outrebound the Golden Eagles 35-31.
Jacob Spurlock poured in a game-high 40 points to lead the Lions.
Along with Spurlock reaching double figures for Boyd County, Alex Martin scored 12 points while Cole Hicks and Jason Ellis netted 10 points apiece.
Johnson Central shot 42.6 percent (23 of 54) from the field. The Golden Eagles finished two-of-10 from three-point range.
Johnson Central shot 76.5 percent (13 of 17) from the free throw line.
Austin Slone scored 16 points to lead the Golden Eagles.
Recording a double-double for Johnson Central, Ryan Rose scored 15 points and collected 10 rebounds.
Joining Slone and Rose in double figures for the Golden Eagles, Jacob Grimm netted 13 points.
