Johnson Central turns back Lawrence County

PAINTSVILLE — Johnson Central used a balanced offensive attack to defeat former 57th District counterpart Lawrence County 59-39 on Tuesday, Dec. 10.

The Lady Eagles shot 43.1 percent (22-of-51) from the field. Johnson Central made four of 15 three-point field goal attempts.

The Lady Eagles shot 84.6 percent (11-of-13) from the free throw line.

Adyson Burchett scored 12 points to pace the Lady Eagles.

Along with Burchett reaching double figures for Johnson Central, Karlea Stanley and Haylee Marsillett netted 10 points apiece.

Narrowly missing double figures for Johnson Central, Kaylyn McKenzie netted nine points while Allie Slone delivered eight points.

Contributing to the win, Maddie Prater (five points), Martina Conley (three points) and Emma McKenzie (two points) accounted for Johnson Central’s additional scoring.

Lawrence County shot 33.3 percent (11-of-33) from the field. The Lady Bulldogs made two of 14 three-point field goal attempts.

Lawrence County shot 60 percent (15-of-25) from the free throw line.

Nearly recording a double-double for Lawrence County, senior guard Sophie Adkins scored 21 points and corralled nine rebounds. Adkins was the only Lawrence County player to reach double figures. The senior guard from Lawrence County led all players in scoring and rebounding.

Abby Maynard (five points), Jada Patton (four points), Maddison Artrip (three points), Caroline See (three points), Emalynn Kitts (two points) and Gracie Woods (one point) followed Adkins in Lawrence County’s scoring column.
