Johnson Central knocks off Boyd County

CANNONSBURG — Johnson Central pulled away to beat Boyd County 68-60 on Saturday, Dec. 7.

Following the win, Johnson Central moved to 3-0.

Johnson Central shot 48.9 percent (23-of-47) from the field. The Lady Eagles made eight of 21 three-point field goal attempts.

Johnson Central shot 70 percent (14-of-20) from the free throw line.

Inside, Johnson Central outrebounded Boyd County 25-20.

Haylee Marsillett and Kaylyn McKenzie scored 14 points apiece for the Lady Eagles. McKenzie made four of 10 three-point field goal attempts.

As part of a balanced offensive attack for Johnson Central, five different scorers reached double figures, and another player nearly achieved the feat.

Allie Slone scored 11 points for Johnson Central while Karlea Stanley and Adyson Burchett netted 10 points apiece.

Narrowly missing double figures for Johnson Central, Maddie Prater added nine points.

Marsillett paced Johnson Central inside, hauling in seven rebounds.

Boyd County shot 45.1 percent (23-of-51) from the field. The Lady Lions made five of 19 three-point field goal attempts.

Boyd County shot 52.9 percent (nine-of-17) from the free throw line.

Jada Ray scored a game-high 24 points to lead the Lady Lions. Accompanying Ray in double figures for Boyd County, Sophia Stevens scored 15 points and Kollyn Groves netted 10 points.

Barely missing double figures for Boyd County, Isabella Opell posted nine points.

Rounding out Boyd County’s scoring, Zoey Smith chipped in two points.
