Bulldogs outlast Pike County Central 29-28

LOUISA — Quarterback Alex Strickland connected with receiver Andrew Tackett on an 8-yard scoring pass with 12 seconds remaining to allow Lawrence County to pull even and Logan Southers drilled a PAT to lift the Bulldogs over visiting Pike County Central 29-28 in a Class 3A, District 8 football game at Luke Varney Jr. Memorial Stadium on Friday, Oct. 9. The Bulldogs hosted the Hawks for a home opener. Following the win, Lawrence County moved to 2-0 overall and in Class 3A, District 8. Pike County Central led 8-0 at the conclusion of the opening quarter, but Lawrence County battled back. Lawrence County and Pike County Central were tied 14-14 at halftime. The Bulldogs moved ahead 22-14 in the third period and managed to battle back to win after falling behind during the fourth quarter. Strickland completed 3-of-8 passes for 58 yards and the game-winning touchdown. Dylan Ferguson led Lawrence County on the ground, rushing 15 times for 112 yards and one touchdown. Another Lawrence County running back, Douglas Hall, rushed three times for 58 yards and one touchdown in the Bulldogs' victory. Excelling through the air and on the ground, Strickland rushed 13 times for 38 yards and one touchdown. Tayvian Boykins led Pike County Central, rushing 18 times for 170 yards and one touchdown. In another stout effort on the ground, Keegan Bentley rushed 21 times for 102 yards and one touchdown for the Bulldogs. Matt Anderson, who paced Pike County Central throughout the 2019 high school football season, rushed 21 times for 82 yards and one touchdown. Through the air, Bentley completed his only passing attempt, finding Boykins on a 15-yard scoring strike. Lawrence County is scheduled to host reigning champion Belfry in another Class 3A, District 8 football game on Friday, Oct. 16
