Johnson Central outlasts Lawrence County 51-46

PAINTSVILLE — Turning away the visiting team, Johnson Central outlasted Lawrence County 51-46 in a girls’ high school basketball game on Thursday, Dec. 1.

Johnson Central shot 41.7 percent (15-of-36) from the field. The Lady Eagles shot 40 percent (four-of-10) from the free throw line.

Johnson Central shot 54.8 percent (17-of-31) from the free throw line.

Owning an advantage inside, Johnson Central outrebounded Lawrence County 24-17.

Kaylyn McKenzie scored 17 points to lead Johnson Central to the win. Giving Johnson Central three scorers in double figures, Taylor McKenzie and Becca Wright netted 13 points apiece.

Providing Johnson Central’s additional scoring, Sophie Adkins tossed in five points and Adyson Burchett added three points.

Inside, Younce pulled down a team-high six rebounds for the Lady Eagles.

Lawrence County shot 35.7 percent (15-of-42) from the field. The Lady Bulldogs finished four-of-19 from three-point range.

Lawrence County shot 60 percent (12-of-20) from the free throw line.

Nearly recording a double-double, Kensley Feltner scored 22 points and pulled down nine rebounds to lead Lawrence County.

Joining Feltner in double figures for the Lady Bulldogs, Kaison Ward added 10 points.

Completing Lawrence County’s individual scoring, Sophie Adkins provided four points, Abby Nelson contributed five points and Abby Maynard supplied three points.
