Johnson Central knocks off Lawrence County 56-49

PAINTSVILLE — Johnson Central knocked off defending 15th Region girls’ basketball champion Lawrence County 56-49 on Thursday, Nov. 30.
Holding an advantage inside, Johnson Central outrebounded Lawrence County 25-18.
Johnson Central shot 41.7 percent (15-of-36) from the field in its winning effort. The Lady Eagles shot 33.3 percent (five-of-15) from three-point range.
Showing improvement, Johnson Central shot 75 percent (21-of-28) from the free throw line.
Taylor McKenzie scored 14 points to pace a balanced Johnson Central offensive attack.
Johnson Central featured three players in double figures as Karlea Stanely scored 13 points and Becca Wright netted 11 points.
Nine different Johnson Central players provided scoring. Maddie Prater (four points), Adyson Burchett (four points), Sophie Younce (four points), Abbie Stambaugh (two points), Haylee Marsillett (two points) and Kaylyn McKenzie (two points) were Johnson Central’s additional scorers.
Lawrence County shot 47.2 percent (17-of-36) from the field. The Lady Bulldogs made five of 13 three-point field goal attempts, shooting 41.7 percent from beyond the arc.
Lawrence County shot 71.4 percent (10-of-14) from the free throw line.
Sophie Adkins scored a game-high 23 points to lead the Lady Bulldogs.
Joining Adkins in double figures for Lawrence County, Jada Patton scored 12 points and Kaison Ward netted 10 points.
Rounding out Lawrence County’s scoring, Abby Maynard chipped in four points.
