INEZ — Martin County edged Pike County Central 84-81 in an early season matchup between 15th Region boys’ basketball title contenders on Thursday, Dec. 5.
The Cardinals shot 40.8 percent (29-of-71) from the field. Martin County made 13 of 38 three-point field goal attempts, shooting 34.2 percent from beyond the arc.
The Cardinals shot 65 percent (13-of-20) from the free throw line.
Parker Watts led Martin County with a double-double, scoring 38 points and pulling down 13 rebounds.
Accompanying Watts in double figures for Martin County, Peyton Davis scored 20 points and Bryson Dials netted 17 points.
Chipping in offensively for Martin County, Eli Mills, Devan Maynard and Brayden Estep each added three points.
Pike County Central shot 50 percent (33-of-66) from the field. The Hawks connected on three of 10 three-point field goal attempts.
Pike County Central shot 70.6 percent (12-of-17) from the free throw line in the matchup.
Jaden Stewart led Pike County Central with a double-double, scoring 38 points and pulling down 16 rebounds.
Delivering another double-double, Peyton Owens scored 18 points and secured 10 rebounds for the Hawks.
Narrowly missing a double-double for Pike County Central, Caden Lawson added 10 points and nine rebounds.
Contributing offensively, Grant Hall (eight points), Brad Biliter (four points) and Colton Young (three points) provided the rest of Pike County Central’s scoring.
