Johnson Central finalizes 2021 schedule

PAINTSVILLE – Johnson Central has finalized its schedule for the 2021 high school football season.
The Golden Eagles are scheduled to visit Henry Clay for a season opener in Lexington on Friday, Aug. 20.
Under the direction of head coach Jim Matney, Johnson Central has additional away games scheduled versus Lexington Catholic, Danville, Perry County Central, Letcher County Central and Belfry.
Two-time state champion has four home games scheduled versus Bishop Sycamore (Ohio), Cahokia (Illinois), Clay County and Harlan County in the 2021 high school football season.
Following a loss to upstart Franklin County in the semifinals of the Class 4A Playoffs, Johnson Central concluded the 2020 high school football season 10-1.
Johnson Central is a perennial state title contender.
The Golden Eagles captured state championships in 2016 and 2019. Johnson Central made five consecutive appearances in a state title game from 2015-19.
The Golden Eagles are scheduled to open preseason practice on Thursday, July 15.
Currently, Eagle Field is being re-turfed for the 2021-22 schoolyear and beyond.
