Johnson Central edges Martin County 3-2, claims region title

PAINTSVILLE — Johnson Central edged Martin County 3-2 in the 15th Region Girls’ Soccer Tournament title match at Coach Jim Matney Field on Thursday, Oct. 17.

With the win, Johnson Central (19-1-3) advanced to the KHSAA Girls’ Soccer State Tournament.

The loss eliminated Martin County (12-8-0) from the girls’ high school soccer postseason.

Callie Davis scored two goals to lead Johnson Central to the region championship-clinching win.

Accompanying Davis in Johnson Central’s scoring column, Braylee Murphy netted one goal.

Aiding Johnson Central offensively, Lily Jarrell distributed two assists and Lauren Arrowood dealt out one assist.

Defensively for Johnson Central, goalkeeper Abigail Ramey held Martin County to two goal and recorded four saves.

Excelling offensively, Faith Caldwell scored both of Martin County’s goals in the region title match.

Defensively for Martin County, goalkeeper Vittoria Dellmotta recorded 15 saves while allowing three goals.
